World Environment Day

World Environment Day (WED) was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972. WED is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of JUNE 5. "Stockholm was without doubt the landmark event in the growth of international environmentalism,". In the whole World, all Heads of Nations attended to arrest the Global warming and protect the Environment. Accepted by one and all, they took decision to utilize  2% of G.D.P. for the purpose to help NGOs, Individuals & Organizations, fully supporting and rewarding them to encourage to more and more people to come into Environment Revolution.

The theme for World Environment Day 2009 is ‘Your Planet Needs You’. World Environment Day is a people’s day, which means it is your opportunity to be a part of Global action to promote the protection of our Planet, the sustainable use of natural resources, and the adoption of a lifestyle that is friendly to the environment.

Do We have answer for the two threats 1) Hunger and 2) Pollution free environment?

Do we have answer for Green House Effect?

Because of the increase of Carbondioxide and carbon monoxides levels in the environment which leads to Green House effect (increase of temperature levels).  Ultimately it leads to melting of ice in Artic and Antarctic continents which causes a rise of sea level leads to wipe out of coastal areas from the world map. 

The plants are only the answer for all the above threats faced by the world.

Vedic and Lord Krishna preached the entire world depends on trees and cows by the following gesture.  That means, if we protect the plants with the help of cows by using cow urine and dung in turn plants will protect the world. 

Where we can say it is possible at Pragati Herbal Garden Resort endowed with a diverse and rich spread of 15 lakh plants covering flowering trees, tropical plants and more than 650 varieties of medicinal herbs which brings you closer to wellness and good health.  Resort is totally mosquito free though the whole area is surrounded by Trees and Plants along with maintaining the bio-diversity without disturbing the nature by following Horticulture, Floriculture,  Vermiculture, Animal husbandry, rearing birds etc.

We, at Pragati, (World’s First Resort to obtain Integrated Management Systems ISO:9001, ISO: 14001, OHSAS: 18001) following the below mentioned organic manure preparation, usage and environmental protection methods from 18th Aug,1996 and practicing it till date. Pragati Herbal Garden Resorts have planted 15 Lakh Trees and more than 650 varieties  of Herbal & Medicinal Heritage Plants, which is rarest of the rare of Ayurvedic Plants without chemical pesticides.

By following the above Environment eco-friendly methods and systems the company maintains pollution free environment all around the resort.  The test results of water, air quality all around the resorts are as follows.

Reduce – Adopting water conservation methods, use of solar energy, bio-gas, wastage minimization, use of interlocking tiles on pathways instead of black top roads or cement roads so that water will be immersed in the ground…...

Reuse – Using the waste material / scrap material for our ornamental and landscaping purposes.   Using the wastes of plants, trees, other solid wastes to convert into organic manure……. 

Recycle – Sewerage Treatment Plant for recycling the water coming from Kitchens and Bathrooms, usage of recycled tiles for pathways……

Note:  Electronic wastes (E-Scrap) like all types of hand held electronic devices, from cellular phones, PDAs to pagers , Batteries, TVs, Computer Spares and other Electronic items,  we keep them in the house as antiques but this creates thousand years pollution in one year and is growing at three times the rate of other wastes.  This has to be recycled through Seller………

Organic Manure Preparation and Usage:

A popular trend has been to use vermiculture to produce a type of compost useful to plants.  In this process, earth worms consume the decaying organic matter such as vegetable waste, leaves, etc. and their fecal matter (castings) is used as a nutrient-rich fertilizer for plants. While there is no doubt that worm manure will bring robust growth to many plants, it may be, in my opinion, a short-term and expensive approach to answering to a long-term problem.

The best solution to overall plant health is to provide the root system with a well populated micro flora of important symbiotic fungi and bacteria – mycrorhizal relationships. This type of relationship is like the human need to maintain a healthy flora in our intestines which is essential to bringing nutrition to our bodies.  Plants need such a healthy relationship in conjunction with their root systems - some

Plants much more so than others - but all plants benefit from it. Micro-flora organisms depend in part on organic matter being present in the soil to help retain moisture and also to consume as a source of food. A layer of compost or mulch atop the soil will help retain moisture and as importantly keep the soil from becoming deadly hot for the micro flora during the long days of hot sun.

Dibba Eruvu : An area of 15’ x 10’ pit is made of 1 feet deep and loose soil is spread and on that a structure is made with trees branch sticks (dry) and on that a mixture of leave modules, Saw dust, Ordinary Soil, Cow urine & Cow dung is made as a heap.  It is ready for usage in 60 – 70 days .

Gunta Eruvu: A pit of 5’ deep is made and all waste leaves, cow dung etc. is stored for 60 days.

Pancha Gavyam is made up of Cow milk, curd, Cow Ghee, Cow Dung & Cow urine, it should be sprayed on the plants.  It is a best pest repellant and prevents disease not just for fruits but grains and vegetables also.   It is economically and ecologically and health-wise beneficial to both farmers and consumers.   We get a comparable yield in first crop itself.

Jeeva Amrutham is made up of Cow dung, Cow Urine, Jaggery , Urad Dal Powder. It also acts as Organic Manure.

Once organic manure is put for trees, the water quantity i.e. the Drip water required is only 1 litre in place of 8 litres of water.  The dried leaves are put around the trees and watering is done in order to keep the plant in wet condition for more duration (Mulching).

Organic Gardening means to grow fruits, vegetables and other plants without relying on synthetic pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Organic Gardening is the use of natural compost and manure to fertilise and grow plants and flowers. No harmful chemicals or pesticides are used to protect the plants. As opposed to Gardening that uses pesticides and other chemicals, Organic Gardening is truly natural.

Organic Gardening is one of the many ways in which we can get our share from the earth as well as preserve it for future generations. Not only it is safe, but it also does not harm the soil, the habitat or the environment.

Organic Gardening does require some changes from the way things are done in traditional Gardening, but you will quickly find that these changes are easy to make. Organic Gardening is easy and fun. Successful Organic Gardening does require some dedication, but the first time you taste your home grown foods or create a colorful bouquet, you will know that your efforts were worthwhile. Your fruits and vegetables will actually taste better and your herbs and flowers will be strong and healthy.  

The approach in Organic Gardening is to see plants as part of complete eco system that begins in the soil.  The Organic Gardening involves all the components of water, plants, people, soil, and wildlife, including bugs. The key to Organic Gardening is to work with nature to grow healthy plants in a sustainable environment where resources consumed by the garden can be replenished minimally and consistently.

HUMUS - Normally used in organic gardening or just to improve the soil  for flower gardens, humus or compost is composted of leaves, organic kitchen scraps except meat waste.  These are added to a composter which should be placed in a sunny location, and water added from time to time. What appears at the bottom of the composter is called 'gardeners gold' in the form of black organic matter. This is HUMUS.

Ayodhya, Madhura, Maya, Kasi, Kanchi, Avantiga, Puri – These are the cities that exists on the bank of the river.   Pragati has acquired the knowledge through the description of the above cities mentioned in Puranas and vedics  regarding what type of plants and trees are to be planted, how the roads and pathways to be maintained and what buildings are to be constructed and accordingly implemented at our place. 

Square Meter Gardening:-

Square Meter Gardening is a uniquely simplified method of gardening that produces 100% of the harvest in only 20% of the space -- AND -- without all the hard work and drudgery of single row gardening.

The theme of this Square Meter Gardening is introduced by Dr.GBK Rao – CMD,  Pragati Herbal Garden Resort and he emphasizes this type of Gardening  as ’Nature is pleased with simplicity’, and his interest and enthusiasm encourages every one of us to have our own Square Meter Gardening (SMG) by which we  can save the Import of Diesel, Petrol and make cost effective Country.

It is clean Soil Compost. In just about a month you can produce your own compost. Pile up weeds, kitchen waste, barnyard manure (NOT dog or cat), dry grass clippings, leaves, etc. The greater the variety, the richer the compost. Don’t add fats, meats, dairy, or bakery products. Keep mixing in new things, turn the whole pile weekly and keep it moist. No fertilizers or pesticides to handle -- it's all natural Compost.

Benefits of Square Meter Gardening:

Much less work, Water Savings, Very little weeding, Pesticide / Herbicide, Free Accessibility.  Easy to understand. Does not require extensive training or years of experience. 5 times more productive than conventional gardening. Pest control can be accomplished by companion planting of naturally pest-repelling plants (i.e. Marigolds), Can be started in any season.

Pragati has published a book on Medicinal Herbs and Ayurvedic Plants by name ‘Medicinal Flora of Pragati Resorts’ and released by the Honourable Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in the year 2006.

Pragati Resort has achieved the Award from Tourism Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh in the category of ‘Eco-Tourism’ consecutively for four years on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

On one side the Government fully supporting and rewarding NGOs, Individuals & Organizations to encourage more and more people to come into Environment Revolution but on the other hand, in the year 1998, Andhra Pradesh Govt. issued a Memo which refers to the various plants and the fees to be included in the value of the land based on each tree as one of the options. 

1st year  -    Value of the plant @ Rs.50/-

2nd year  -   Value of the plant @ Rs.100/-

3rd year  -    Value of the plant @ Rs.150/-

4th year  -    Value of the plant @ Rs.200/-

5th year  -    Value of the plant @ Rs.250/-

Which is being implemented at PRAGATI and we are paying.  Further they want to increase on this.  Which direction are we going?

The above said phrase is inter related with one another i.e.  if we safeguard the cow, its products i.e. cow milk, cow dung, cow urine are used in the preparation of organic manure which is used as pesticides free manure for trees and plants.  The phrase also says that if the trees are safeguarded, it will safeguard the Environment.  So we can say that tree and cow (Go Matha) are to be protected for a healthy Environment.
