In keeping with their obsession to provide
a quality life to the people and give a new meaning to
the joy of healthy living, Pragati Green Meadows and
Resorts Private Limited have been doing remarkably well.
A look at the lush greenery and the mesmerizing
spell that the flora casts on the visitors gives enough
indication that the promoters are driven by a passion.
The burning desire to deliver has helped them to provide
a clean and green dwelling place, which serves as a
rejuvenating magic potion that has been derived
naturally.
'The destination of joy', as the
promoters put it, has in less than a decade carved a
welcome niche for itself and has earned a prominent
place in the hearts of hundreds and thousands of people.
This is because they symbolize the concept of clean and
green in the real and literary sense.
The
Plots, which are ideal for farm cottages, have been
developed on a 85 acre area located on a 2000 acre land
near Prodattur village of Ranga Reddy district, which is
about 35 kilometres yonder of Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad.
A lot of credit for the growing popularity of
Pragati as a provider of well developed Plots amid
an enchanting ambience and pollution-free environment
should go to G.B.K.Rao, the chairman and managing
director of Pragati. It is indeed significant that the
engineer-turned-environmentalist has not shied away from
his ambition of bringing about an element of quality in
the lives of the people.
"You know people are
drained out after putting in hours and hours of toil.
The tensions, an outcome of the professional hazards day
in and day out, and the mental agony need to be eased
once in a while. A befitting retreat in the
circumstances is enjoying an extended holiday in the lap
of nature in all its glory", he points out while
explaining about his forays into this world. Although he
was hailed as a man of steel, given his earlier
interests, what perhaps stood him in good stead was his
rural background.
The venture, which is as
unique as they come, stole the people's heart right from
Day One because of Rao's determination to harvest rain
water and put them to admirable use.
"Initially people poked fun at me and laughed away at my proposals. But I was undeterred and went about giving shape to
the scheme. Today, the Plots stand testimony to the
numerous benefits of water harvesting and conservation",
he tells in all humility.

It is welcome departure
from the hustle and bustle of the city life and brings
relief from the occupational tensions.
Moreover, it is equipped with facilities that more than serve the purpose. Swimming pools, a golf
course, boating and water sports, clubs and cafeterias,
children's park, lovers' rendezvous points, gym, lawns
that are breathtakingly beautiful and what have you.
Each goes a long way in making one's stay a redeeming
experience as it helps in the individual opening himself
up.
Poetic justice has been rendered in a way by the
Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Developers Association, which
declared Pragati as the 'best farmland/resort in the
State'. It is an honour that is cherished by Rao and his
fellow-promoters, including his wife and son.
Making
light of the reputation it enjoys of being a pioneer in
developing Plots and resorts in the state, Rao says
that he was more than happy that people keep coming back
to him for the satisfaction a sojourn at Pragati
provides.
"I am happy when people are happy. There
is an inexplicable joy when people come to you and
praise your ventures for the serenity they enjoyed", he
says.
The lover of nature is all the more
enthusiastic when people come to him to seek a place
that serves as a retreat and also revitalizes them. He
says meeting the needs of the people, particularly those
who want a break from the day-to-day tensions is what
motivates the promoters to keep pace with the growing
demands. And true to their bid to bring about quality in
life, there is a liberal spread of medicinal plants.
'Earlier people had only theatres, bars and
parks as sources for getting some sort of respite but
they only lasted a few hours. Seeing this and believing
that every individual needed a break, I thought of
developing Plots, which is how Pragati came into
being.
"I knew that people would be particularly
happy to be in the midst of nature and be surrounded by
trees. Although it appeared a risky proposition when it
was planned, I had the gut feeling that it would click.
Owning a farmland is now a status symbol. The increase
in tourist inflow has actually come as a blessing in
disguise. Moreover, I am sure it will keep rising", he
says.
Rao says that though he was attracted by
resorts, his aim was to construct a township for the
middle and lower class as they were in dire need of
dwelling places they could call as their own. This could
probably bring relief to some families but there was
always the happiness that something worthwhile was being
done by him.
The urge to make life healthier is
borne by Pragati Sparsh, which has come about at the
behest of the State Government. It offers the best of
Kerala medication at prices that are cost-effective.
Thus Kerala ayurveda and siddha vaishyashala facilities
are available right in the backyard. For the benefit of
those availing treatments at Sparsh, the promoters have
come up with dormitories and cottages, which is truly
appreciable.
Inspired by the coming of age of
Pragati Resorts, Rao, his penchant to make life
rewarding for the people, started the Pragati Green
Gates at Veerannapet, en route to Pragati Resorts in
2001 and followed it up with Pragati Green Valley, both
of which have been well received.
